Using NFC Business Cards at Events and Exhibitions
By the Smart Visiting Card team · Updated 2026-10-27
Draft for editorial review: facts in [brackets] need confirming before launch.
Short answer: at a busy event, the goal is to get your details into someone's phone before the conversation ends. An NFC card does that with one tap, and a QR code on the card covers phones without NFC. To get the most from it, prepare your profile for the event, put a tap point on your stand, and follow up within 48 hours.
This guide is for anyone exhibiting at, or attending, trade shows, conferences and job fairs in Pakistan, whether in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad or elsewhere.
Before the event
Update your profile for the event
Your NFC card opens a profile you can edit, so tailor it for a few days: - Put the most relevant link first: a product catalogue, an event offer or a booking link - Add the WhatsApp button prominently. Many visitors in Pakistan would rather message than email - Check your Save contact button works, with your company name and title included - Remove anything out of date
Change it back after the event.
Bring enough cards for your team
Every person on the stand should have their own card linked to their own profile, so leads reach the right person. For team orders, see bulk NFC business cards.
Test on two phones
Tap your card on an iPhone and an Android phone the day before. Also scan the QR code. If you're unsure, see NFC card not working?
At your stand
Make a fixed tap point
A standee or desk plate on the stand counter lets visitors tap without waiting for a conversation: - Program it with your Instagram, WhatsApp or an all-links page to grow followers during the event - Or program it with a catalogue or price list, so visitors leave with your products
Show people how to tap
Not everyone has tapped an NFC card before. Say "Hold your phone here, near the top" and point to the spot. It takes two seconds and people remember it.
Keep the QR code visible
Some visitors will have phones without NFC. Every one of our cards and standees carries a QR code that opens the same link.
When you meet someone
- Have the conversation first. Tap at the end, not as an opener.
- Offer to tap their phone: "Can I give you my card? Just hold your phone here."
- Ask them to save your contact while you're still talking. That's the moment it's most likely to happen.
- Get their details too. Ask for their card or WhatsApp, or have them message you from your profile's WhatsApp button so you have their number.
After the event
- Follow up within 48 hours on WhatsApp or email while they still remember the conversation
- Reset your profile to its normal layout
- If you added tracking links for the event, check how many people opened them. (After migration: link to the tap-tracking guide.)

FAQs
Can one card open different things on different days? Business cards open your profile, and you can change what's on it whenever you like. Single-link social and review cards are programmed with one link. Ask before ordering if you may need to change it later.
How many cards does one person need? One. The card isn't handed over; the other person taps it and you keep it.
What if the venue has poor mobile signal? The tap still works, but the profile page needs data to load. If someone can't load it, ask them to tap Save contact once they have signal, or send them your profile link on WhatsApp.
